Google CEO Sounds Alarm: No Company Safe if AI Bubble Bursts
In a stark warning, Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai told the BBC that no business would be spared if the current surge in artificial intelligence investment turned into a bubble and collapsed. While he called this period an “extraordinary moment,” he conceded that some of the growth appears driven by “irrational exuberance” — a sentiment that echoes the dot-com boom. Yahoo Finance
Pichai said Google could likely withstand turbulence thanks to its “full-stack” capabilities — from data centers and AI chips to its AI models and infrastructure — but he made it clear: “no company is going to be immune, including us.”
Beyond market risk, Pichai also raised two other major concerns. First, energy consumption: he warned that AI’s massive power demands could slow down Google’s net-zero climate goals, calling for expanded infrastructure and new energy solutions.
Second, he cautioned users about over-reliance on AI tools, noting that AI models are “prone to errors” and stressing the importance of cross-checking their outputs with more traditional sources.
